Free Money For Your Pregnancy

For all you Korean NHS (National Health Insurance) holders, have you heard about the Go On Mom Card? (gounmam-kadeu

The Korean government along with KB bank offer a subsidy for all pregnant moms, Korean and ex-pat alike. When I got the card while pregnant with my daughter it was for a value of 300,000 Won. However the amount continues to increase. Currently the card has a value of 400,000 Won to which up to 60,000Won can be used per prenatal appointment.

Get the card early to ensure that you are able to use the full amount.  The less you have to pay out of pocket the better.

The Go On Mom Card can be used at any hospital or Sanbuingwa (산부인과), It can not however, be used in a midwife run birthing center (조산원).

Lots of moms put off getting the card because they think that it will be too much work to get, but it's not. It's very easy. Firstly you will need the following documents:
  • National Health Insurance (국민건강보험)
  • Passport
  • Alien Registration Card
  • Statement from the hospital of your pregnancy
  • Application Form (obtained from your hospital)
You can pick up the hospital statement and application form on your next doctor prenatal appointment. Just ask the receptionist and they can provide you with the proper paper work.
Secondly, go to any KB Star bank (국민은행).
You do not need to have a standing account to apply for the card. You will open a special  gounmam account. There is no need to deposit any money into this account.

Voila! 400,000 Won of easy free money for your pregnancy "Medical" expenses.
What are you waiting for?!
